LUCENA CITY — Taal Volcano showed renewed unrest after a rise in volcanic earthquakes over the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported (Phivolcs) on Monday, May 4.
In its morning bulletin, Phivolcs recorded 20 volcanic earthquakes—significantly higher than the nine events logged over the previous three days.

LUCENA CITY — Taal Volcano showed renewed unrest after a rise in volcanic earthquakes over the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported (Phivolcs) on Monday, May 4.
In its morning bulletin, Phivolcs recorded 20 volcanic earthquakes—significantly higher than the nine events logged over the previous three days.

The agency also reported “weak” sulfur dioxide emissions at 590 metric tons. No upwelling of hot fluids was observed in the main crater lake on Taal Volcano Island, and no volcanic smog (vog) was detected.
Despite the increased seismic activity, Taal remains under Alert Level 1, indicating low-level unrest.
Authorities reiterated that entry to the volcano island, boating on the lake, and flying near the volcano remain strictly prohibited. /jpv
